Site Selection Magazine | Birmingham Ranked ‘Top Metro for Corporate Investment in 2024’

For the first time ever, Birmingham has been recognized as a Top 10 Tier 1 Metro in the United States for corporate facility investments per capita by Site Selection Magazine's 2024 Top Metro rankings. Each year, Site Selection magazine evaluates metros based on corporate expansion projects meeting at least one of the following criteria: a minimum of $1 million in capital investment, at least 20,000 square feet in new or expanded facility space, or the creation of at least 20 new jobs.

Qualifying projects span industries such as manufacturing, data centers, distribution warehouses, call centers, research and development facilities and corporate headquarters. Birmingham’s recognition in the Tier 1 category—reserved for metros with populations exceeding 1 million—underscores the region’s ability to compete on a national level in business attraction and expansion.

This ranking reflects the efforts of the Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA) and its economic development partners to foster a pro-business climate, drive investment and create high-quality jobs that support sustained regional growth.

With 41 projects, including 19 relocations, 22 expansions and the creation of 1,657 jobs and significant capital investment, this 2024 achievement highlights our region's strength in driving economic growth.

Through strategic partnerships, workforce development initiatives, and a commitment to fostering innovation, the Birmingham metro is solidifying its place as a key player in the national economic landscape.
