Project Announcement | Truckworx Expands Corporate Operations, to Build New Corporate Headquarters in the City of Birmingham
Truckworx, Alabama’s premier heavy and medium duty truck dealer, is expanding its corporate operations in the Greater Birmingham Region to a newly constructed, company-owned facility in the city of Birmingham. The project represents a $6.8 million investment in capital expenditures and 52 high-paying jobs for the city.
With the total economic impact estimated at $564,171 over 10 years and nearly $3.5 million over 20 years, the new headquarters, located at 2224 24th Ave. N.—directly across from the company’s flagship dealership on Finley Boulevard—will centralize Truckworx’s corporate team in a state-of-the-art, 12,000 sq.-ft. facility. The move reflects the company’s long-term commitment to Birmingham, the city where it was founded in 1978.
“When we moved into our new building in 2004, our plan was to house our largest dealership and corporate office there,” said Truckworx CEO & President Will Bruser. “Over the last 20 years, Truckworx as a whole has grown tremendously and our corporate team outgrew the office space we had available. Knowing we would continue to grow, in 2021, we made the decision to move our corporate team to an office about 20 minutes away in Homewood, which has created some logistical challenges. We are excited for our entire team to be back together in the city of Birmingham in a new corporate headquarters right across the street from our dealership. We appreciate Mayor Woodfin and the Birmingham City Council’s support in moving this project forward, and we look forward to giving back to the community.”
This new facility in downtown Birmingham expands Truckworx corporate office, building off the success the company has had year over year, and allows for even more expansion in the future. The new location will house roles in accounting, IT, HR, support services and C-suite leadership, with average wages of $67,000. The company operates 23 locations across Alabama, Mississippi and the Florida panhandle, and considered multiple potential locations for these headquarters but ultimately opted to stay home in Birmingham.
“We are thrilled to announce the establishment of Truckworx’s new headquarters in Birmingham, which will serve as a vital hub for their back-office departments, including accounting, sales, service, and executive functions,” said Cornell Wesley, City of Birmingham Director of Department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity. “This significant investment of $6.8 million not only underscores Truckworx’s commitment to our city but it is also set to create 52 new jobs, providing essential opportunities for our residents. We look forward to collaborating with Truckworx as they join our vibrant business landscape and contribute to the continued success of Birmingham.”
The Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA), which delivers economic development services for the region as a whole and is the regional chamber of commerce for economic prosperity, assisted Truckworx in this project. The BBA provided critical support, walking Truckworx through the abatement process, facilitating meetings with the City of Birmingham and Jefferson County, coordinating with the Industrial Development Board and the Birmingham Construction Industry Authority, and connecting Truckworx with key partners.
“Huge shout out to the expertise of Shane, Trevor, Terri, and the entire Birmingham Business Alliance,” said Mike Levering, Truckworx COO and Vice President. “This group of professionals helped to guide us through obstacles and really helped to jump start the project and put it in motion. We would be months and months behind without their assistance. Irenio Johnson, Jr. with the City of Birmingham was also instrumental in helping us navigate some of the more tedious aspects of getting the project off the ground. Thank you all very much for your help.”
The BBA's goal is to increase job growth and capital investment and attract and retain top talent for industries located in the seven counties the BBA serves.
“This is a win for downtown Birmingham and a testament to the confidence that homegrown companies like Truckworx have in our city’s future,” said BBA President & CEO Steve Ammons. “By choosing to build in Birmingham, Truckworx is not only expanding its footprint, but also creating high-paying jobs and deepening its roots in the region.”
The Truckworx project was supported by the BBA, the City of Birmingham, Jefferson County and other partners like Dunn Construction, who will lead the buildout on the facility as general contractor. Total Incentives are $441,799 including Sales Tax Abatements of $101,800 and Property Tax Abatements of $238,821.
“I am very pleased that Truckworx has chosen to continue its investment and growth in Jefferson County, reaffirming its strong commitment to being an integral part of our community,” said Jefferson County Commissioner Mike Bolin. “This is precisely the type of project that inspires community enthusiasm and reflects the growth that we strive to encourage. I extend my sincerest thanks to Truckworx and their employees for their continued dedication, and to both the Birmingham Business Alliance and the City of Birmingham for their invaluable support in bringing this project to fruition.”
In 2024, the BBA, along with its regional economic development allies, won a total of 17 projects, resulting in 1,001 new jobs and $490 million in capital investments for the seven-county region. The BBA has supported more than 700 economic development projects, that represent the creation of approximately 34,000 jobs and produced $9.2 billion in capital investments to the region since its inception in 2009.
