The Hechinger Report | A new kind of high school diploma trades chemistry for carpentry

Starting in the fall, Alabama high school students can opt for a new “Option B” workforce diploma, which allows them to substitute two math and two science courses with three career and technical education (CTE) classes within a single career cluster.

This shift is part of the state’s broader effort to boost workforce readiness and improve its labor participation rate.

Birmingham Business Alliance Vice President of Economic Development is quoted as saying the "Option B" diploma is a "Win for the State of Alabama."
