Committees, Councils and Roundtables

As an investor of the BBA, you and your business have the opportunity to participate in a number of committees, councils and roundtables. BBA committees are a great way to get involved, network and learn how to grow your business. See the list below for brief descriptions of BBA committees along with the appropriate BBA staff contact.

Birmingham Regional Enterprise Council

BREC is a council of Birmingham Business Alliance investors who are committed to helping small businesses in the greater Birmingham region succeed. BREC is the successor council to the African American Business Council, Hispanic Business Council, Small Business Committee and the Women’s Business Council. Entrepreneur’s Roundtable Program

Multiple groups of business owners meet monthly to share in confidence, their business experiences. It is open to any BBA member business owner, but participants are solely selected by the current roundtable members via an application process.  Participation must be approved due to the confidential nature of discussions. Each roundtable has an individual Chair.  The roundtable program is chaired by Dan Pahos of Home Instead Senior Care. Finance and Taxation Committee

This group is comprised of tax and finance professionals who address issues relating to state and federal tax reform and tax policy, appropriate funding sources for transit, and public policy issues relating to economic development incentives.  This committee meets on an ad hoc basis and provides expert guidance to the Governmental Affairs Committee as well as the BBA Executive Committee.  Chaired by Bradley Sklar of Sirote & Permutt, P.C. Governmental Affairs Committee

The Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC) is comprised of governmental affairs professionals, elected officials and others professionals involved with public policy from around the region. The committee is tasked with the creation the BBA’s yearly State and Federal Legislative Agendas, supports all BBA public policy events and  assists in Montgomery and Washington to ensure funding and positioning on issues of importance to the business community as a whole. The GAC meets on the third Monday of every month.  Chairman, David Roberson of Drummond Company and Vice Chairman Renee Carter of the Coalition for Regional Transportation.
