The Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA) has launched its Supplier Scale program for the second year in a row, aimed at helping small businesses in Jefferson County grow and succeed. This six-month-long program is designed to provide business owners with the tools and knowledge they need to take their companies to the next level.
Supplier Scale is a part of BBA's Business Advisory Services initiative, made possible by the Jefferson County Commission. This program is offered at no cost in partnership with Prosper, an organization focused on advancing women and minority-owned businesses in Birmingham. Together, BBA and Prosper have set a goal to serve 250 companies and create 1,300 new jobs over the next five years.
“Supporting our small businesses and giving them the tools and guidance they need to grow is absolutely crucial to our local economy and to retaining local talent,” said Jefferson County Commissioner Steve Ammons, Chair of the Economic Development Committee. “The County is proud to support Supplier Scale and we can’t wait to see the successes of this next cohort.”
The program will be led once again by Jay Spratling, founder and CEO of Corporate Facilities Management in Birmingham, who is excited about the opportunity to help small businesses in the region. Launched in the fall of 2021, the inaugural cohort of the Supplier Scale program served 20 various growth-stage businesses. The experiences, impact and successes of those companies have informed the updated plan of work for the next class.
The curriculum for the second cohort includes:
Peer mentoring groups
Access to major buyers across the Greater Birmingham Region
A three-year growth plan developed with proprietary market research
"Prosper is excited to have the next cohort of Supplier Scale entrepreneurs participate in this business-advancing initiative. Our vision to build the most inclusive and thriving economy in the Southeast is only accomplished because of the partnership of organizations like the BBA and Jefferson County, and through the continued growth of our region's small businesses. We believe this intentional investment of support given to the Supplier Scale companies will have short-term and long-term economic impact that will transform our communities for the better," said J.W. Carpenter, President at Prosper
