Alabama's Game Plan' for Economic Development: A Path to Success

Alabama is making significant strides in economic development in the Southeast, positioning itself as an attractive business destination. Governor Kay Ivey recently signed "The Game Plan," a comprehensive package of bills supporting job creation. This approach strengthens Alabama's position as an economic development leader in the region.

Enhancing Alabama's Economic Progress Act:

  • Extends the Alabama Jobs Act and Growing Alabama program through 2028.

  • Increases incentives cap to $25 million per year for five years, attracting larger projects.

  • Includes renewable energy generation facilities, meeting manufacturers' clean energy demands.

Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy Act:

  • Enables fast-track development of industry-ready sites by the State Industrial Development Authority (SIDA).

  • Provides resources for state-community partnerships, promoting economic development in rural areas.

Innovation and Small Business Act:

  • Revitalizes Alabama's innovative growth and supports underrepresented businesses, particularly in rural areas.

  • Increases flexibility for small businesses, women-owned enterprises, and minority-owned entities to access resources and tailored assistance.

Enhancing Transparency Act:

  • Requires the Alabama Department of Commerce to publish incentivized project information on its website.

  • Enhances accessibility and transparency, bolstering confidence and clarity in economic development efforts.
